Cardboard Haunted House

Do you have an empty cereal box? Keep it! Check out what I created using some inexpensive items.

Materials:
1.) Cereal box
2.)Two haunted house wooden cutouts from Dollar Tree
3.)Hot Glue Gun
3.) Spray paint: Canyon Black, Real Orange, Purple Grape
4.)Left over greenery, moss, wooden beads(not included in the picture) I used plastic pumpkins
5.) Round puck light
6.) Exacto Knife

The steps I will show you will be repeated to the other side of the box(double sided lantern, or if you only want one side done it will also work)

Place the wooden cut out to the front of your cereal box, center it and glue it down.

Look carefully and you can see I cut out the inside circle form of the wooden cut out, don’t worry about the inside windows and door.

Once you have completed the inside cut out then move to the bottom of the box and measure were you want to glue your wooden beads to the four corners of the box. FYI-( The pumpkins you see me using were from a light strand of lights, if you use wooden beads you don’t have to do this step)

This step is optional you can leave the flaps on the box or you can cut them off, I removed them off and instead I created a lid using left over cardboard and added a wooden bead for a knob.

Next I traced the puck light on the bottom center of the box and cut it out for the light to be inserted. Note, if you don’t have a puck light you can skip the cutting and just insert fairy lights.

Once all the cuts are done and the legs are glued start to paint, I painted the inside and outside of the box with the black spray, I also added some orange and purple for more dimension. ***( Remember you can do the other side of the box or you can only do one)

You don’t have to use spray paint remember you can use chalk or acrylic paint.

The moss and greenery I had was also sprayed with black and purple.

Once the paint on the greenery is dried then start by decorating the front or both sides of the box. I glued the branches on the bottom of the box following the curve form for the cut out, I also added moss and some plastic flowers.

This step was added during the process, if you have bubble wrap you can glue it inside behind the box behind the wooden plaque, and insert the puck light on the bottom. ** If you’re not using a puck light then just insert the fairy lights.

Are you ready?? If you’re using the puck light then you can light it up using the remote controller and change different colors, if you are not the simply turn on the fairy lights.

Voila! You have just created a one of a kind Halloween single and/or double sided lantern.
