Dollar Tree has many wire wreath forms the cross form caught my eye and I brought it home to see how we could give it life. Check it out, we all need one at home.
Materials:
1.) Two Dollar Tree wire wreath forms
2.) Jumbo popsicle sticks 1 bag ( I bought 2 bags just in case)
3.)Hot Glue
4.) Walnut Noyer stain ( you can use any color you want)
5.) Fairy lights, wire cutters or sharp scissors
Watch carefully for this project there is no measuring the process is quite simple its like putting a puzzle together.
Start by cutting of the round ends on each of the popsicle sticks and start placing them on the outside of the wreath form.
This step is very tedious and you will have to cover the entire frame of the cross and it will be done to both cross wreath forms.
Once you align the popsicle stick to the outside wreath form you will have to individually glue each stick to the wire, apply a generous amount of glue and hold and repeat.
** Make sure that when you glue each piece to hold them as close as possible to not have any gaps.
Once you have covered the entire cross use one of the scraps pieces and cut it out size and place it in the center on both of your crosses as it will add support when we wrap the twine.
Now you will begin cris crossing the the twine around the center of the cross until you cover the small gaps ( there will be odd angles left uncovered).
**The twine will be to hold both crosses together so make sure you are tightly wrapping the twine.
Once the center part is completed then you will repeat the twine process wrapping very tightly to secure both crosses. Wrap the top,bottom, left side and right side.
I also used twine to wrap the mid section of the longer part of the cross to have it more secure.
Now you can use any type of stain or paint that you want, I chose to use stain as the wood grain would look more natural.
When glueing the lights pick the side that looks perfect for you and start at the bottom part of the cross and the light switch will be glued to the bottom horizontally.
** I lined the fairy lights using the center part of the back side of the cross and glued all around the inside perimeter of the cross.
My cross did not include a hanger since it has two looks the clean look of wood and the back side that show the lights. If you chose to add a hanger then its totally up to you.
Look carefully as this was the only way I could hide the battery pack, you will not be able to insert it on the bottom of the cross as both crosses are tightly wrapped with twine.
Once you get to this step you should feel proud of yourself because this is a very tedious and lengthy process but the result is worth it.
Light it up! Voila! The warm soft glow it gives is majestic!
This is a one of a kind cross and it truly looks like a solid piece of wood.
