Carrot Hummingbird

Get creative using Easter wood carrots from Dollar Tree and create a one of a kind humming bird.

Materials:

1.)3 Wood carrots
2.) Acrylic paint ( depending on how you want to paint your humming bird)
3.) 2 small popsicle sticks
4.A skewer
5.) Paint bursh
6.)Magnet
7.) Hot Glue

Take a look very carefully as this is the order how you will place the carrots.

Make sure they’re well aligned.

Quick tip once you place your carrots you may want to trace how you placed them in case you accidentally move them or while gluing them.

Now cut both popsicle sticks in half.

Start gluing them as you see below using a “fanned”technique.

When gluing them make sure the cut part of the popsicle sticks are glued on the back side of your hummingbird.

Cut the pointy part of the skewer as it will work perfectly for the birds beak.

Paint the back side a solid green or which ever color you decide.

Look carefully as I outlined my design on the top part of my piece to guide myself while painting.

Dont stress, everyone’s humming bird will turn out differntly.

Start with a dark shade of green, remember that it’s all about the blending of the colors that your piece will come together.

Next apply the lighter shade of green, carefully and very gently blend where the two greens meet.

Quick tip, I added hot glue to the small holes on the carrot see how there are two small dots of glue painted green.

Next you are ready for the feathers this is the exact way how I started by placing the main colors then I dipped my brush on the white and gray and started to blend the colors.

Again it’s all about how well you blend in the colors.

Take a look below how I started to paint the tail feathers half black and green and blend both colors.

The chest of the hummingbird will be different for everyone, I decided to use a metallic pink but the original hummingbird I painted red/orange.

Paint the beak and a small area of the mouth with black.

When you finish painting the beak/mouthpart simply use both greens that were used for the body to highlight the head/neck part of the humming bird.

I also used a black paint marker to draw the eye (you can also use black paint pen). Using the tip of another skewer dip the pointy part in white paint to create the white dots on the eye.

The last part I added the Emerald green glitter paint over the green areas on my hummingbird.

Turn it around and add a magnet or add a wood dowel and place on a plant however you decide.

Enjoy and thank you, feel free to share this to your friends and family. 🙂
